Hey, Class of 2017! The University of Iowa is looking for a charismatic speaker from your class to help formally welcome the class to campus during Convocation on Sunday, August 19. Think you fit the bill? Upload your audition video by 5 p.m., August 2nd.
To enter the contest, save your audition video to your desktop, then follow the instructions for uploading it as a response to this video on YouTube (see instructions at 1:12). Limit your video to two minutes (content beyond two minutes will not be considered).
In your audition, just be yourself. Don't worry about props or preparing the final speech. Just help us get to know you and share some ideas about what you might say. If you have questions, send us an email at oniowaprogram@uiowa.edu.
What is Convocation?
Expect plenty of pomp and circumstance at this annual ceremony to welcome the university's newest incoming class. UI President Sally Mason, Provost Barry Butler (the university's chief academic officer), and a student representative of the Class of 2017 will speak, and in keeping with tradition, officials will ring the Old Capitol bell and a student choral group will perform the Old Gold Hymn. The event is outside of Old Capitol, on the east lawn of the Pentacrest, so wear plenty of sunscreen!
