You should have received a confirmation email about your specific volunteer assignment. Volunteers are asked to sign in prior to volunteering with the On Iowa! program. At sign-in, volunteers will sign a volunteer form, and pick up a volunteer t-shirt if you don’t have a gold volunteer t-shirt from last year.
Volunteers can stop by the Volunteer sign-in station (249 Iowa Memorial Union, Office of Vice President for Student Life) during the following times:
- Monday, August 13, 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, August 14, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, August 15, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Information for Volunteers
You should have received a final confirmation with your volunteer assignment. If you did not receive a confirmation, call 335-3557. Check website before you arrive at your volunteer assignment.

The majority of On Iowa events will occur rain, shine, or heat. A few may be moved to alternative venues if weather conditions dictate. Any changes or cancellations will be listed on this website.
On the day of your volunteer shift, if you are unable to participate, please leave a message at the On Iowa Headquarters phone at 319-353-2797.
- We can accommodate only individuals who have been confirmed to volunteer. We will not be able to accommodate volunteer family members, minors and pets.
- Please dress comfortably (tennis shoes, shorts, etc.) and wear your On Iowa! volunteer t-shirt.
- Wearing a name tag or office button is encouraged; name tags will also be provided at the volunteer locations.
- Please leave valuables at home (there is not a place to put purses, backpacks, etc.).
- Volunteers are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout their shift.
- We encourage volunteers to wear sunscreen if you are working a shift during peak sun hours.
- Parking suggestions/maps will be provided at a later date.
- Once your volunteer shift is over, we ask that you exit the volunteer event.
- Additional volunteer training will be provided on-site at the volunteer events.

MOVE-IN FIRST YEAR STUDENTS TO THEIR RESIDENCE HALL

- Please use CAMBUS or walk to assigned area. Parking is limited to unloading only. Refer to Cambus website.
- You will be assisting families and students with moving their belongings in using carts.
- Please be sure to wear your On Iowa! volunteer shirt
- You can speak about your Iowa Experience but this is not a recruitment activity. NO Solicitation allowed.

HAWKEYE SPIRIT NIGHT
Locations: Hillcrest, Burge Carnival Room, Mayflower Lobby
- Report to main desk of your assigned residence hall
- Please use Cambus service
- Greet students
- Carry cases of soda, help distribute soda to students
- Set up activity areas and monitor supplies (picture frames and Iowa pennants)
- Tarp an area to protect floors and assist students with tie-dyeing t-shirts

KICK-OFF AT KINNICK

General Volunteer Information
- Volunteers may take CAMBUS or park in Lot 43 west of the stadium after 4:30 p.m.
- Report to Gate A at Kinnick Stadium and proceed to the Volunteer and Guest Check-In table
- Wear your On Iowa! volunteer t-shirt and flat, close-toed shoes
- Bottled water will be provided
Shift 1 (4:00-7:00 p.m.)
- Place banners and other signage
- Deliver activities to north tunnel and assemble for easy placement
- Set up guest check-in station
- Place water bottles
- Distribute black and gold beads
Shift 2 (6:15-10:00 p.m.)
- Staff registration and guest check-in stations
- Serve as gate keepers
- Place water bottles
- Distribute black and gold beads
- Serve as volunteer leaders
- Help distribute bottled water
- Green team (trash and recyclables)
- Crowd control and transitions
- Set up and staff activity stations
- Clean up
This event will be held in almost any weather conditions. If you have a question about the event location (extreme rain location is Carver-Hawkeye Arena), please check the volunteer web site.
LATE NIGHT ACTIVITY – BINGO & GAMES IN THE IMU
- Report to 2nd Floor Ballroom, IMU – Ask for Marti
- Monitor entrance/Greet students
- Supervise card games/poker playing
- Monitor prize table
- Parking: IMU Ramp is free if you exit after midnight
SATURDAY, AUGUST 18, 2012
PARTY IN THE PARK
- Meet in Hubbard Park
- Assist in set-up of various activities
- Greet students and manage lines for activities
- Manage waiver signing for Ultimate Frisbee activity
- Assist in tear-down of activities
- Dress comfortably as you will be outside
- This event will be cancelled in the case of extreme weather, but will continue if there is rain only; check website prior to event for latest information
ENGAGE SESSION

Check in at the 10x10 tent on the corner of Hubbard Park. If inclement weather check inside 145 IMU
Parking Lot Control
Volunteers will help control the IMU metered parking lot during the time student organizations are setting up for the Engage session. This will be an outdoor opportunity.
Set-Up - Tables, signage & decorations
Volunteers will help set up tables, signage, outdoor decorations, etc. Overall set-up in addition to what students groups will be setting up. This is an indoor/outdoor opportunity.
Check-In students outdoors
Volunteers will help check in students groups as they arrive to set-up. This will most likely be an outdoor opportunity under a tent.
Way Finders at IMU
Volunteers will help direct OnIowa! participants around the Iowa Memorial Union. You will be provided a map and other important information.
LATE NIGHT CONCERT - SUPER MASH BROS: OUTDOOR CONCERT IN HUBBARD PARK
General volunteer information:
- Park in IMU Ramp (note parking is not provided)
- Report to Danforth chapel (in Hubbard Park) Ask for Marti
- Wear closed toe shoes
- Wear Volunteer t-shirt
Concert Set-Up
- Pound stakes into ground
- Set up orange snow fencing
- Set up bike rack for security
Super Mash Bros. Concert security, bag check, duties:
- Stay in security spots around the concert perimeter
- Ask people to enter through designated entrance, rather than over the fence
- Take down stakes and fencing after concert
- Help pick up trash after concert
SUNDAY, AUGUST 19, 2012
CONVOCATION AT PENTACREST
Volunteers should report to the Pentacrest, Old Capitol East Side, near Schaeffer Hall to check in with Michelle to receive your specific assignment
- Set-up water distribution stations
- Guide students to seating area
- Assist with keeping the sidewalks clear for the processional
- Assist with sustainability efforts
- Dignitary & Faculty Robing
- Assist with distribution of processional attire for faculty members
PRESIDENT’S BLOCK PARTY
Volunteer times vary by volunteer shift; please refer to your volunteer confirmation email for your specific volunteer time. You will receive your specific assignment when you arrive at the check-in table.
- Arrived 5-10 minutes before your assigned shift
- Check-in station located on Church Street near President’s Residence
- Please wear comfortable clothes, closed toed shoes, your volunteer shirt and nametag (provided)
- Anyone assisting with food and beverage will need to wear a hat
- Park at North Campus Ramp, located on Madison Street
- Volunteers are welcome to eat. Keep in mind, the food lines end at 6:30 pm so please plan accordingly.
Beverage Volunteers:
- Will be reaching into large ice bins and distributing various beverages to students
- Some volunteers will be assisting with keeping ice bins full (may include some lifting)
Food Runners:
- Will assist with restocking the food lines (transporting food from grilling area to food lines)
- Help with any spills/cleaning as needed
Green Team:
- Will facilitate recycling and composting
- Gloves will be provided
- Blue Bunny ice cream wrappers are not compostable, please make sure they go in the trash
Crowd Wrangler
- Provide directions to students (where food, beverages/water, where to sit, etc.)
Tear Down/Clean Up:
- Taking down various stations/equipment (heavy lifting possible)
