Gardening to Fight Hunger
During this gleaning event, we will gather as a group to collect surplus crops from the community garden run by the student organization D.I.R.T, Determined Gardeners Incorporating Radical Farming at The University of Iowa. Their mission is "Growing sustainable produce and utilizing our 1/3-acre garden to provide an educational model that addresses environmental, social, cultural, and economical issues that affect our contemporary food system". By volunteering your time and energy, you can gain a better understanding of gardening, food insecurity, and help ensure that these nutritious, fresh produce items are distributed to the local food pantry on campus.
Meet at Cambus stop #0001 (adjacent to Schaeffer Hall) at 8:45 AM, the Hawkeye - Pentacrest Cambus route leaves promptly at 8:50 AM. We will ride Cambus to Hall of Fame North. To return to campus, go back to the Hall of Fame North Cambus stop at 10:35 AM and the Hawkeye - Pentacrest route will be arriving at 10:40 AM.
